Just Duckie - A Birthday Party

Tracey is another person whose blog I’ve been following since we connected via my Etsy shop. I love all the fun details she shared recently from the duckie party celebrating her son’s third birthday. If you get inspired by real-life parties, be sure to check it out!

I had to laugh when Tracey says at the end of her blog post that she’s challenging herself not to think about next year’s theme until 3 months before the party instead of her usual 6 months. Glad to hear I’m not the only one who does this. Unfortunately all that advanced thinking for me doesn’t actually get much accomplished. I’ve got only a couple of weeks left to pull together a carnival themed birthday for my boys, including designing the invitation - yikes!

Thanks so much for the shout out!
I can not wait to see what you do with the carnival theme! I would frame any invitation you designed for sure!
In addition to obsessing about my own children’s b.day parties I love to give unsolicited ideas for the birthdays of other folks’ children. Are you ready, here it goes! (I’m sure you thought of them all)
A knock down/pin game with dinky prizes.
A strong man/woman contest - rig something up so they hit something and a bell rigns.
Popcorn in the great red & white striped boxes (which you can get for cheap at party suppliers)
I still have ducks on the brain, I’m thinking a duck shoot. How? Don’t know. Maybe rubber ducks and water pistols!
Cotton candy OF COURSE!
It would be cool to make distortion mirrors, I think you could do it by applying some of the mylar film or something shiny like that onto cardboard and waving it or bending it.
Face paint
Ok, I will stop now. I am going to try and steer my little guy towards a carnival theme for next year!
Those are awesome ideas Tracey, thank you!!!
I’m loving the stenciled birthday banner… the colors are perfect. Don’t forget to have a scary clown at the Carny party. Actually, I found some easy instructions (online) on how to do those balloon animals… if you have an extra set of hands, that might be fun.
I love thinking of party themes for my own kids birthday parties. Even through I’m surrounded by party products all day. I cannot seem to switch off. So about 6 months before their birthdays I start a rough plan of what their party might be. Then I ask them what theme they could like and I start to look around to see what I might have in stock. The last twice they asked me for theme’s I ddin’t have. But I guess that’s just par for the course.
