Fidoodle
Fidoodle offers story-based products for children that are designed to ignite imaginative and interactive play. The collection includes a whimsical upside down tree mobile ($180) and a very unique jigsaw puppet set ($98).

This beautiful mobile features detachable leaves and flowers that a parent or child can change according to seasons or whim. The branches and birds bounce gently when someone brushes up against the mobile, and the wire inside the branches can be sculpted to fit a particular space. It’s difficult to tell the scale from the image and you may be surprised to learn that this is a large mobile, measuring about 3 cubic feet when hung. I think part of the reason this mobile caught my eye is that it reminds me of the book Trees Make the Best Mobiles, which I read soon after my youngest son was born.
I’ve never come across anything like Fidoodle’s jigsaw puppets. The wooden pieces are screen-printed by hand with contemporary illustrations, and the heads and bodies can be swapped to create new characters and stories. I love how children can play with the pieces in so many different ways…as puppets on sticks, free-standing figures, or fridge magnets and of course by making the puzzle. The jigsaw puppet set comes in an organic twill bag with special pockets for the puppetry rods and includes a contemporary retelling of a time-honoured tale, rewritten by book artist Shannon Gerard.
Fidoodle products are made in Toronto through a collaboration of artists and craftspeople using sustainably harvested woods, organic cottons, wool, and non-toxic inks. Jen Bulthuis is the creative mind behind this Canadian design and production company and she has exhibited Fidoodle at the One of a Kind Show in Toronto. New products will be emerging so you may want to bookmark her website or keep an eye on the Fidoodle shop on etsy.
